Ireland - Personal Effects (Relocation/BUSINESS/VACATIONS)

For individuals relocating to Ireland (Irish and non-Irish passport holders) who have been living outside Ireland for more than 12 months for (relocation, business, vacation and studying) and non -residents visiting Ireland for more than 12 months for relocation, business and vacation

Important Information

Customs Clearance Fee

A small processing fee will be charged by our courier partner for relocation shipments. This fee is payable by the receiver in Ireland and is not included in the shipping cost.

Time Limit for Importing Personal Effects

Your personal belongings must arrive in Ireland:

• Up to 6 months before your move or
• Within 12 months after you transfer your residence to Ireland.

Please note that tools used for a trade or profession are not eligible for duty relief. Any applicable customs duties, taxes and processing fees will be charged.

Required Documents

1. Passport

A clear copy of the consignee's passport photo/details page.

2. Flight Ticket

A copy of the flight ticket showing travel from the same country your shipment is being sent from. The ticket must be dated within 6 months of your shipment's arrival in Ireland.

If you travelled to Ireland in multiple journeys, you may provide all relevant flight tickets.

3. Proof of Employment Outside Ireland

Irish Customs requires evidence that you were employed outside Ireland, such as:

• Employment contract
• Employer confirmation letter

Please note: Payslips are generally not accepted unless they cover a period of at least one year.

4. Proof of Residence Outside Ireland

Provide evidence that you lived abroad such as:

• House sale confirmation
• Rental or tenancy agreement
• Lease agreement
• Mortgage statement

If these documents are in another person's name (for example, your partner or a family member), you can provide:

• A copy of their tenancy agreement, mortgage statement or utility bill
• A signed letter explaining your living arrangements
• A copy of that person's ID or passport

5. Proof of Daily Living Outside Ireland

Provide documents demonstrating that you lived abroad for 12 months or more such as:

• Bank statements
• Utility bills

These documents should cover the period before your move to Ireland.

6. Proof of Residence in Ireland

Provide evidence of your new address in Ireland, such as:

• House purchase confirmation
• Rental or tenancy agreement
• Lease agreement
• Mortgage statement

If you are living at a property where these documents are in another person's name, you can submit:

• A copy of the tenancy agreement, mortgage statement, or utility bill
• A letter explaining your living arrangements
• A copy of that person's passport or ID

7. Proof of Employment in Ireland

Provide evidence of employment in Ireland, such as:

• Employment contract
• Employer confirmation letter

Please note: Payslips are generally not accepted unless they cover a period of at least one year.

If you have returned to Ireland but have not yet secured employment, you may submit a letter explaining your circumstances. Acceptance of this document is entirely at the discretion of Irish Customs.

8. Customs Transfer of Residence Form

The consignee must complete the official Transfer of Residence customs form.

This form will be included with your shipment paperwork and must be completed and submitted as instructed.

Ireland – Returning Irish Citizens & Residents (Away for Less Than 12 Months)

Applicable for Irish passport holders or permanent residents returning to Ireland after being outside the country for less than 12 months for relocation, business or vacation.

Important Information

Returning Irish citizens and residents will be charged a customs clearance processing fee by our courier partner. This fee is payable by the receiver in Ireland and is not included in the shipping cost.

Required Documents

1. Passport

A clear copy of the consignee's passport photo/details page.

2. Return Flight Ticket

Provide a copy of your flight ticket showing your return to Ireland. The ticket must be dated within 6 months of your shipment's arrival in Ireland and should show travel from the same country your shipment is being sent from.

If you returned to Ireland through multiple journeys, you may provide all relevant flight tickets.

3. Outbound Flight Tickets from Ireland

Irish Customs also requires copies of your outbound flight tickets showing your original travel from Ireland to the country from which you are now shipping your belongings.

4. EU-Origin Goods

To qualify for duty relief, your goods must be of EU origin.

When completing your customs paperwork through your getmyparcel account, you will be asked to declare whether your goods are of EU origin.

Please note:

• Goods manufactured or purchased outside the EU are not eligible for duty-free clearance.
• Any applicable customs duties, taxes and courier handling fees must be paid by the receiver in Ireland before the shipment can be delivered.

Ireland - Personal Effects (Temporary Visitor)

Applicable for non-Irish passport holders or non-permanent residents visiting Ireland for less than 12 months for business, relocation or other temporary stays.

Required Documents

1. Passport

A clear copy of the consignee's passport photo/details page.

2. Flight Ticket

Provide a copy of your flight ticket showing travel to Ireland from the same country your shipment is being sent from.

The ticket must be dated within 6 months of your shipment's arrival in Ireland.

If you travelled to Ireland in multiple journeys, you may provide all relevant flight tickets.

3. Return or Onward Flight Ticket

You must also provide a copy of your return or onward flight ticket showing your departure from Ireland.

Your onward destination does not need to be the same country your shipment was sent from.

4. Customs Declaration Form

An additional Customs Declaration Form must be completed and attached to your shipment.

This form can be downloaded along with your other shipping documents sent by getmyparcel

Ireland - Gifts

Important Information

Gifts can be imported into Ireland duty-free, provided they are correctly declared and the total value does not exceed €45.

If the declared value exceeds €45, Irish Customs may apply duties and taxes. However, Irish Customs generally does not collect VAT amounts of €6 or less.

Additional Packing List Charges

Our courier partner will charge an additional fee for each packing list line exceeding five entries.

Duties and Taxes

The consignee (receiver) is responsible for paying any applicable:

• Customs duties
• VAT
• Courier handling fees

These charges must be paid before the shipment can be delivered.

Ireland – Personal Effects (Students)

Applicable for non-Irish passport holders or non-permanent residents visiting Ireland for more or less than 12 months to study at a university or college.

Required Documents

1. Passport

Provide a clear copy of the consignee's passport photo/details page.

2. Enrolment Letter

To qualify for duty-free clearance of personal belongings, students must provide a copy of their enrolment certificate or official enrolment letter issued by their college or university.

The document must clearly include:

• The student's full name
• The full name of the college or university
• The full address of the college or university
