Skytrans baggage policy
What Counts as Carry-On?
Carry-on includes:
- Cabin bag (small suitcase, duffel, or backpack)
- Laptop bag or handbag (this is counted within your allowance)
- Any item carried into the cabin must fit within the total weight limit (6kg for Cape York, 4kg for Torres Strait)
Example: If you bring a backpack (4kg) and a laptop bag (2kg) on a Cape York flight, you’re at your 6kg limit.
Carry-On Size Dimensions
While Skytrans doesn’t publish fixed size limits, they generally follow the 114 cm linear rule (L + W + H) used by regional airlines. A good safe size:
- Max size per item: 48cm (H) × 34cm (W) × 23cm (D)
- Must fit in the overhead bin or under the seat
Checked Baggage – Size & Weight
- Max 20kg free per person (total across all bags)
- Single bag must not exceed 32kg (even if you pay extra)
- Oversized or heavy bags may not be loaded due to aircraft weight limits
Can You Pre-Book Extra Baggage?
Skytrans does not currently offer online pre-purchase for excess baggage.
You pay at check-in if you’re overweight:
- $5.50/kg (Cape York)
- $3.30/kg (Torres Strait)
Excess baggage travels standby only – not guaranteed on your flight.
Items Not Allowed in Hand Luggage
- Sharp objects (scissors, knives)
- Flammable items (lighters, aerosols over 100ml)
- Liquids over 100ml (same TSA-style rules apply)
